Kashmir Ski School: A Ski school for everyone.
Kashmir Ski School was established in 2010 with the objective of providing ski lessons for all levels and ages. We are a group of 30-plus individuals, highly experienced in skiing and mountaineering activities to guide you throughout. Ours is a professional team who have been working in the winter industry in Gulmarg for more than 2 decades now. We understand our mountains. Let us show you why we love them.

Our basic ski course is aimed at beginners who would love to learn skiing and snowboarding. We also offer small-group tuition for those interested. For intermediate and expert skiers, we have our best ski guides for route selection with utmost safety.
We're professional
We hold safety and security as the highest priority. Our ski instructors are trained to International Avalanche Safety Standards by top guides from New Zealand. They are locals of Gulmarg who know their mountains like the back of their hand. These are dedicated ski professionals who have been skiing since the age of 6 and are the best at what they do. Safe to say that, our ski instructors have been teaching and providing ski lessons for more than 16 years now. So, whether you are just starting or have had some experience skiing before, our ski team and ski instructors will ensure that we adapt to your level of experience.
We love to ski
Every year, we conduct free skiing and snowboarding courses for around 30 kids; 15 boys and 15 girls with the objective to promote the thrill of winter sports among the locals.
Our Ski Guides and Instructors are the most fun when they are high up on the mountains. We have been learning to ski and snowboard for the past 20 years or so and as locals from Gulmarg and growing up in the mountains, winter sports, and activities comes naturally to us. Once familiar with the sport, we were determined to expand the expanse of winter sports in Gulmarg hence, free coaching for kids was introduced.
Although small, we are proud of our endeavor as it has opened numerous avenues and opportunities for kids in Kashmir.
Our ski courses are custom-made. If you are an intermediate or an advanced skier and would like to hit the chairlift and phase 2 directly, let us know. We will design it specifically for you.
Skill levels in Skiing and Understanding your level
- +Level 1: First-Time Skiers
- If you have never skied before and need to learn everything from scratch, you are at Level 1.
- +Level 2: Learning to Turn
- Once you’ve had a couple of ski lessons and are working on your turning maneuvers, you are already at Level 2. Though you may still have some difficulty turning, however, by this point, you know how to stop.
- +Level 3: Building some Confidence
- At this point you should be able to make round wedge turns with relative ease and gain some confidence and begin to get your skis parallel.
- +Level 4: Learning to Link Turns
- At this level, you should be nearly parallel on green runs (slope gradient < 20 degrees) and perhaps a few easy blue runs (slope gradient of max 25 degrees). You are able to link turns with a greater sense of control however you might not be going fast for fear of losing control.
- +Level 5: Parallel Ski on Blue and Green Runs
- This is intermediate-level skiing. You should be parallel skiing at all times with no wedge except for a few turns on the ski track. You can use pole touch to make turns and keep you steady.
- +Level 6: Turns on More Challenging Terrain
- You’ll be skiing off-piste (non-groomed slopes). At this level, you can handle different terrain and snow conditions, though with a healthy level of care. You should also be using your poles to make tighter turns and linking parallel turns.
- +Level 7: Confident on Black Runs
- At this point, you are an expert-level skier. The slopes on the black run range from 25-35 degrees. Here, you are confident in your ski abilities and are able to tackle even the less-than-ideal conditions that the mountains sometimes throw at you. You are able to stay in control and maneuver parallel turns and carving with ease.
- +Level 8: Tightening your Technique
- You’ll have a handle on all types of terrain and can execute both short and long runs. At this point, you are mainly focusing on tightening your technique and making a few minor changes here and there.

Both Winter and Summer months are busy throughout the year. During winter, Gulmarg offers snow activities such as Skiing, Snowboarding, Ice Skating, snowmobiling, etc. During summer, the Gondola ride is the most popular.
